Proud Parent

So, I walk into preschool with Memphis this morning and see a bunch of pictures on the wall about Cowpokes. They had been working on a theme to go with the stock show. I noticed that Memphis had the only one up there with his own writing on it and asked the teacher about it. She said that Memphis is the only one who is writing much more than his name in the class, and he does it without help. She then said that he actually writes on the dry erase board for "transition time" during school. That means he writes what is happening next. I don't want to offend others, but Memphis is amazing!! We are so proud of him.

In addition, Maverick is starting to put 2 words together. Like, "Night Night Daddy". And he is trying to sign and say, "I love you". Very cute. He has also been asking to sit on the potty. No luck yet, but just him asking is great. I can't wait for diapers to be done!

Stock Show

Well, we had a busy weekend full of stuff. Maverick got his first stitches on Friday afternoon. He did fine, probably better than I did. I think he was most upset about being held and told to stay in the room for so long. Once again, I recommend Dr. Edrich, who came in after hours to do the stitches. Memphis was great....telling Maverick he would be ok and holding his hand.

We went to the stock show on Saturday with Scott's parents. It is always fun to go to the rodeo and see all the animals. Memphis wouldn't pet any, as usual. But Maverick had no problem in the petting zoo area. It was a long day, as we got to I-25 and 6th Avenue and realized we forgot our tickets at home. Bummer....and it made for a long ride for the boys. Memphis searched for quarterhorses and pink pigs. Both boys loved it when the rodeo royalty took pictures with them. And Memphis got his picture taken with local celebrity Mike Nelson from Channel 7 News.

It was a great time, but we were sure tired when we got home.

The rest of the weekend was resting and doing chores. Scott made some frames for my pictures by Kim Anderson and hung them up. They look great now that they are in some nice frames. Scott really is so handy. Like all the preschool moms know.....I am very lucky to have him.

Today we get to go get Maverick's stitches out and fix a tire on my car. I ran over a nice 4" nail and need a new tire. But, hey, at least Capital Pacific is still building. No nails means no new houses....so we are thankful! (The glass is half full, right?)

Kindergarten Registration

OK - so I didn't think that registering Memphis for kindergarten would make me so sad. I worry so much. I know academically, he is completely ready. I worry socially. And I just can't believe that he is going to be going to kindergarten! It seems like I just registered at the hospital to have him! I am sure all parents go through this....but I honestly didn't think the registration would hit me. Imagine how I will be when he actually goes on his first day!! Then on the way to school today he asked me how old I will be when he is 36. I about had a panic attack when I said 68! Of course, it was nice that he followed it up with, "Mommy, will you make me a monster truck cake for my 36 year old birthday?"

Memphis has been so into writing and drawing lately. I love to go into his room to clean up. I find papers that say, "I love you Mom, I love you dad, I love Maverick". It does my heart good. Then he drew a picture of all of us that says, "I love that - The Oldhams". I hung it up. I need to frame it. He read a book to Maverick this weekend. He is just amazing!

I can't forget Maverick. I am sure he will be so sad when Memphis is in school everyday. Even now, when we take Memphis to preschool, as soon as we are in the car he starts saying, "Brother?" When I say it is time to go get brother, he runs up the stairs to get his shoes and starts saying, "Bye. Brother." At the school, he knocks on the door of the classroom. And when they open it, he tries to go in saying, "Brother, brother".

Well, again, I know all parents must go through this. But I was a little sad this morning about it. I can't believe how fast they are growing up. Of course, when people told us that when Memphis was a baby and I was up 4 times a night, I didn't believe it.

Happy New Year

Well, we made it through the holidays. Of course, per Oldham tradition, one of us was sick on Christmas, and the other on New Years Day. The boys had a blast. Memphis wanted to wait up for Rudolph, not Santa. He said, "Mom, when Santa comes I will come get you awake and we will see Rudolph." In the morning, he came up and the first thing he said was, "Mom, Memphis is so sorry!" When I asked why, he said, "Because I forgotted to get up and get you to see Rudolph!" It was very cute. Maverick loved the first toy he opened and really didn't care about opening the rest, until we opened them and he saw that toy. It was pretty cute.

We were able to spend time will a lot of our family. Unfortunately, GG (the boys great-grandma) was sick. So we definately missed her. We spend some time on Christmas Eve with my dad and Jan.

Then we went to my mom and Ren's house. And a full house it was. My brother, Eric, and his family were there. My aunt, uncle and cousin, too! The kids spent time tracking Santa on the Norad website. We ate great food and had a very nice time.

We also got to spend a day with Scott's brother, Kirk, Liz (his wife) and parents. His parents also came over on Christmas day. With all these grandparents, you can bet the boys were spoiled!!

We spent New Year's Eve with our friends, The Lewis's. Most of you would know them as Molli's parents. Most of the kids were asleep before midnight, but Molli and Memphis stayed up until about 12:30 a.m. playing. They did give each other a Happy New Year's hug. It was very cute.

In a final note, we would like to thank Uncle Timmy and Aunt Kris for their gifts for the boys. Especially the one for Maverick. If anyone knows who Indian Larry is, here you go.....
